Each piece includes Generative AI and other software. Many employ an alternate or double meaning.
The exploration of generating images of women using Generative AI reveals much about idealized beauty standards and why dysmorphia is on the rise— trying to get older women, thick women, or women of color takes significantly more effort. Further, prompts that include generic terms like “person” are more likely to be white men and largely reveal existing power structures. AI is reflective of the images women have been bombarded with and manipulated by. It has me asking how we might intervene to turn the tides and get to something that is truly more intelligent.
